why does place matter?

Place matters because how we survive depends on where we live. In the midwest, for example, alot of families farm in order to earn a living. Back before Columbus discovered the "new world" Native America's survived living off the land and by learning to grow crops and hunt. Our environment and what is around us helps develop how we act, talk, think, and learn. The language we speak is decided by the people and culture around us. We don't necessarily get to choose where we grow up, so we don't choose what values or beliefs we may develope. Its all based on where we come from and where we live.

Erica, I agree that how you grow up is based upon where you come from, but I think that you can choose your beliefs and values to an extent... Like maybe at a young age you don't but everyone comes to a certain age where they know what is right and wrong from gut feelings, and I feel like those gut feelings come from somewhere other than socialization, like somewhere you can't explain...
