Why does Place Matter

Both Sanders and Dillard describe place and why it matters in their writings. Sanders talks about differnet places like geographic, and the galaxy. When he talks about geographic he talks about the Midwest and how it is home to him. Sanders reflects on which places helped him be a good writer and which didn't. For example on page 151, Sanders talks about how at Cambridge he wrote, "steadily and badly in tortured sentences, about expatriates and drifters." He also talks about how home is his special place to explore the nature and write about it. Dillard talks about place in an opposite way. Unlike Sanders, Dillard likes a place with isolation, like her cabin. She doesn't explain the nature around her as much as Sanders does though. She just describes what she is doing everyday and describes random points for example, the moth. You can tell in both of their writings they care about place but Dillard does it in a very differnet way than Sanders. Sanders just comes right and describes the place around him.
