What this Means to Me

I originally intended to blog about Lucy's comment about a desire to return home; however, I've been following the poll results on CNN since 6:00 this evening and I am currently in a state of awe.

Never could I actually visualize living to see such a historical moment come true before my very eyes. I mean, about half a century ago, whites and blacks where segretated, and the concept of equal rights was non-existent. However, America has changed so tremendously in this unbelievably short period of time. Wow! (here come MAJOR tears!) I, Brittani Hunter, lived to see the first African American President elected. I'm so overwhelmed with surging emotions right now.

The fact that voters from colorful backgrounds and numerous races came together to elect Obama displays the true beauty of the American race. America is steadily progressing towards change and acceptance. We all know that our country changes all the time, however, it took this election to truly exemplify the positive direction that America is moving towards.

I don't think I've ever been utterly speechless until the late evening of Nov 4, 2008. I stood in front of my TV with my bath towel wrapped around me. After the facts set in, I cried for 10 minutes, nonstop. Tears of joy streamed down my face as I proudly lived in the moment when the African American race made a legendary mark on the world. Not only am I happy for the numerous supporters of all the beautiful races. I am also happy to see my race, a race that was oppressed for a long time, rise to such an esteemed position.

I hope I'm not offending anyone out there. I just can't help but to rejoice in such a wonderful moment that will affect my history, as well as U.S. history, forever.

Thanks for sharing. This is an incredibly powerful and remarkable moment in American history, regardless of who people voted for. The questions of identity that we discuss in class, I think, will emerge in strong ways over the next few years in our own political sphere.

:-) lol That was a great night Brittani, not only because he was black but because Obama and Biden were just the better ticket. It was an extremely emotional and historic moment, I had a Barack party. I just feel good about our country and Obama just makes me feel like anything is possible, good entry!
