Does Twinkle Really Accept Her Religion?

In my last blog I sided with the arguement there was nothing wrong with Twinkle thinking the statues were beautiful without any religion meaning to her. I still think this is true, except I started to think a little more about if she is true to her religion...
When this idea popped up into my mind I started to think about her nickname. Why doesn't see really love her real name? Usually, when people have a nickname only their close relatives or friends call them by that name. Or I have friends that use their nicknames because they don't like their real name. Is this what Twinkle is doing? At the party, Sanjeev is introducing his wife to new comers, who are strangers to Twinkles eyes. When Sanjeev introduces his wife as "Tanima" Twinkle snaps back and says, "Call me Twinkle." It is like she isn't proud of what her real name is, so she wants everyone to call her by her nickname.
It is odd that Twinkle always ask Sanjeev why he cares what people think? When really she cares too. She wouldn't have changed her name in the converstation so fast if it didn't matter that much to her. Also she would not being going around showing everyone the statues and pulling a scavenger hunt at the party, if she didn't care what they thought, and didnt care for their acceptance..
Although, I do agree that it is okay to find beauty in other religions than your own. I think Twinkle needs to find the beauty in her own religion as well, and be proud of it too.

I agree with you that Twinkle may not be so carefree as she is portrayed in the short story. However I feel as though Twinkle was playing off of Sanjeev's insecurities only because she knew how uncomfortable he was with her. She certainly did not care what Sanjeev thought about her. For example when Sanjeev complains about her high heels and about her dancing in public... he may just be saying that he was embarassed by her. Maybe Twinkle simply does not care what Sanjeev thinks and acts out only to agitate him.
