Welcome!

To start things off (and before we have a common text to discuss), I thought I'd share some interesting facts about our class. We've got athletes from a number of sports: hockey, running, basketball, football, tennis, volleyball, soccer, and swimming. Some other interesting ways you spend your time outside of class include yoga, hanging out with family, Irish dance, sleeping!, music, watching "So You Think You Can Dance," volunteering, acting, expressway driving, photography, and playing cards. Of course, you've also read an amazing array of books--so good, in fact, I had to share a few:

A Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini
Slaughterhouse-Five, Kurt Vonnegut
The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini
Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
Bright Shiny Morning, James Frey
White Noise, Don Delillo
The Road, Cormac McCarthy
East of Eden, John Steinbeck

If you've read any of the books above, feel free to add a comment letting us know what you thought. We can all add these books to the ever-growing list of books to read before you, well, can't read anymore :).

Currently I am reading Bright Shiny Morning by James Frey and I absolutely love it. I am really enjoying his unique writing patterns and style. I chose to read it because I loved A Million Little Pieces and My Friend Leonard... which were both excellent!

A Thousand Splendid Suns is one of my favorite books of all time. I read both Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns and both were great but I enjoyed ATSS more. It is different because it is narrated through the mind of women so it really allows a woman of our age to better understand what they might be feeling and feel a stronger connection to the characters. Read it if you can!
