To Abandon A Sibling?

Laughter.
Constant Laughter.
Yet, it is a sound that never seems to tire.
Never a moment that welcomes a pause...

for when a pause is present,

the outcome is explosive
catalytic
mood changing
chaos
It is in this moment
that the burn will seep in;
It is in this moment that
defeat has captured you.

Always though,
the love of a sibling causes the sting
to pierce for only an instant,
because it is in that instant,
You are laughing again.

{The poem is kind of a vignette of when my brothers and I are all together joking around, making comments about each other}

[Lucy finally makes small mention of her 3 siblings on page 130, yet it took me by surprise. I have always been very close with my brothers (there just so happen to be 3 boys in my house as well), so to abandon them right along side abandoning my mother, comes as a surprise. I find it shocking that she can so easily abandon these little brothers of hers without showing any form of worry for their well-being, yet easily attach herself to little Miriam and worry about her. ]

Sarah, I think it is interesting that you bring up the importance of siblings. I didn't even think of the fact that because of her anger towards her mother, she completely resents her brothers. The relationship between a brother and a sister has a special bond, just like a mother and daughter. This makes me wonder if its her pain that creates this hate, or if it's the culture that ignores the possible bond that we have come to find among siblings.
