Peggy

Peggy is one of those friends that everyone always says is a bad influence, but yet you hang out with anyway. I never understood the fascination with people hanging out with people who everyone knows are no good. My sister is one of those people, she has this friend who everyone knows is no good. She smoked and skipped class in high school. My parents would beg my sister not to stay friends with her, but this would only encourage my sister to hang with her more. It was almost as though the fact that it upset my parents made her want to stay friends. I wasn't even sure the two girls had anything in common. Perhaps we all in a way like to disappoint our love ones, we like to rebel and having friends like Peggy is a simple way of ensuring that.

I think that is why Lucy befriended Peggy, they were different and that excited her. Sometimes i think we need friends who are complete opposites from us to be able to learn more about ourselves. I think this is the reason both my sister and Lucy enjoyed their friends.

Jenny, I agree that sometimes we need friends who are complete opposites from ourselves. The diversity that comes from so many different personalities interacting at one time creates this alluring dynamic, where you know there are character flaws about someone, yet you have decided to look past them in order to get to the greater good. :)

Jenny,

I like your statement that in order to know yourself better, you need to have friends who are different than you. In a way, I agree, but I also disagree. If you have friends who are different from you, then you come to realize what you are like, simply by recognizing the differences between you. But I also think you need friends who are similar to you so that you have people who share common interests with you so you can hang out together.
