"How can it be that we can say so much without words?" --Labi Siffre, "It Must Be Love"
[I found the scene between Maire and Yolland, to be comically frustrating... Not that I've ever really had the experience of another not being able to decipher which words I am saying, but more so that sometimes you can be talking and no one is following your train of thought. It's quite a comedic relief when the misunderstanding is to such an extreme as it is in Translations, but frustrating nonetheless. But, then because Maire and Yolland have become able to get past the words needed, do words really not m a t t e r ? Do WORDS really not carry that much significance, because the reality is, it is all in the feelings and emotions surrounding a moment?]

This particular scene stood out to me as well, Sarah. It made me laugh to myself as I read it because I guess I imagined it to be coming from a musical. I could sense the happiness they read in each other's voices and and smiles. It lead me to think that it would be a great song!
Great you tube video. you are right words are not everything. A person's personality is not not determined by what they say, but what they do- if the appear quiet, energetic, etc. I think all humans have a sort of sensing mechanism that radiates to understand one another.
Cool video, Sarah. I think that it would be hard to get by if two people who were "in love" couldn't communicate directly. The scene between Yolland and Maire also struck me as frustrating because I feel that at the end of their conversation--where neither of them understood anything the other was saying--they wouldn't all of a sudden have this strong bond where both of them end up loving each other and wanting to be with each other forever. It all seems a little silly to me, too.
