One thing I have learned while writing papers for this class is that I need to have the confidence to say what I want to say. As I start to write Long Paper 1, I feel a little apprehensive. I know what this paper is about, but I cannot seem to wrap my brain around a topic. I think about what I wrote for Short Paper 1, and I do not feel confident about it. Then, it hits me. Why shouldn't I write about a story that I enjoy: The Yellow Wallpaper! Then, ideas start to flow. I realize that I know more about the story than I thought.
All I need is a little guidance, a little shove in the right direction. I have never had the confidence to just write what I think is right; I am always double-checking myself. After visiting office hours, I realize that I had it in me the whole time; I knew what I wanted to write about, I just did not have the confidence to start.
Now I feel that I am on the right track. I have experienced helpful exercises, including maps, lists, and rereading the text. After I spend a little bit more time with the text and develop quotes and concrete ideas, it will be time to start the paper.

I am with you in that I too had a really rough time starting this paper because I could not seem to wrap my brain around the topic I wished to pursue! Then, like you, I went to office hours and went with my instincts on what I want to write about. Finding what was enjoyable and interesting to discuss helped me focus on my topic. Anyways, it is refreshing to know I am not the only one who had a hard time getting things moving!
